The Information
Setting - New York City Time period - Present but a month behind, ex. today is 12/19...in the RP, it's 11/19 Weather - New York is rather humid in the summers, and wet in the winters. The air is cold when the time is right and the wind can blow. The sun is very hot over the pavement.
The Plot
All you should know about the plot is that the two characters in this role play are brought together by a vicious murder. One character has ties to the murderer, the other is investigating. Both of these characters are coming together in friendship, romance, you decide. But with all friendships there is a catch, and both of these characters have their secrets.
The Rules
*I do not want any posts less than 5 sentences, and I want a very proper role playing technique used. *I do not want any vulgar of offensive material, keep it PG-13 please, nothing over kissing, cuddling, making-out, and not to many details when talking about other romantic acts. If you do include other romantic acts, please use it mildly, do not go into to much detail please. For example, you could write, "They had a romantic evening full of passion and smiles." <--- enough for us to think, okay so they ... *Weather will be determined by the first to awake in post, every time you go to bed and re-awake the weather will be changed. *Weather can change throughout the day, as long as it is 3 posts or more after the initial wake up weather has changed. *Use details while you are posting, I want a clear mental image. *Limit this RP to 2 characters for now, NPC's are played by the 2 main characters.
The Characters:

Name: Hugo Douglass Age 34 Gender: Male Image and Description: Hugo has small scars on his back that he doesn't talk about. Back-story: Hugo Douglass was born in an affluent area of Los Angeles, California to even more affluent parents. Growing up with a butler, maid, and all the boys being envious of the son of the famous Anthony Douglass, founder of Douglass Entertainment Incorporated, one can easily assume that Hugo could be described as spoiled. Not so, however. Anthony taught his son from the moment he could speak that wealth, fame, and glory all came from dedication and hard work. Hugo quickly caught onto his father's logic and was driven to, as he said at ten years old, "Surpass Father in everything he had done." At age eighteen, Hugo was rocked by a sad event: the death of his best friend Marcia Collums, who was murdered savagely. Hugo incessantly followed any news that surfaced about Collums killer, which did not come out quickly. This prompted Hugo to himself go into the already cordoned off area of the murder scene and try to conduct his own investigation. He "investigated" Marcia's room, belongings, etc. for any possible clues. Hugo was quickly caught in the home by Marcia's father, who vehemently urged the young Hugo to leave. This one event sparked an interest in criminal law, specifically detective work. Six years and a very proud father(he was proud because he had not wanted his son to go into the entertainment business) later, Hugo was a private detective and also a husband: he had married his college sweetheart just a year earlier. Working as an assistant detective for the LAPD, Hugo quickly made an impression on his superiors for his quick wit and uncanny ability to spot inconsistencies in testimonies. During his time as an assistant, his wife of two years, who had just given birth to their daughter, mysteriously vanished without a trace. Her body was found a week later in an abandoned Buick that had looked like it had been in an accident. Hugo had pieced together that his wife had ran away from home for another man(he sifted through her emails, which he had never bothered to do in their short marriage). Apparently the man had raped and killed her, leaving her in the car. Hugo's grieving process was not usual: he stayed at work even longer than usual, bringing in more and more results that his superiors could not ignore. He was promoted to detective and as the old adage goes, "it was history." Hugo was ablaze, sifting through case reports and solving nearly fifty cases a year, which was astounding. This pace continued for two years, quickly realizing that his daughter needed his attention after he had heard from his mother that his own daughter was calling his father "Dada." His relationship with his daughter flourished as he began to spend time away from work. Their relationship now on steady ground, Hugo prepares to take on the most intense case of life. Little does he know how much of an impact this case would make on his life. Personality: -Loyalty is something he prizes highly. Hugo would never betray his department, his family, friends, etc. -Hugo, coming from an affluent background, can have the tendency to look down on others who are less fortunate than him. -He is very compassionate to his daughter, but very unforgiving with all others. -He has never lied and makes sure it will stay that way. -He is a very determined worker, not wanting to swerve away from a job until it is completed Occupation: Detective Other: -He enjoys reclining in a chair and thinking in his spare time -He watches cartoons with his daughter and enjoys them just as much as she does -He throws his thumb up and index finger out as if pointing a gun and makes a clicking sound when someone does something he approves of. It gets annoying really fast. Read more: portray.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=real&action=display&thread=237&page=1#ixzz19BmXyOKK

A Little About Me... Name:Sarah Stratton Age:29 Gender:Female Personality: Sarah is a very confident young woman. She is not willing to open her heart to just anyone, for she has been hurt before. Her friends and customers say she is a very friendly young woman, who can be a workaholic at times. She is clumsy, always tripping over herself, and she can laugh at herself when it happens. She can walk up to a random stranger and walk away leaving a never ending impression. She can be stubborn, but is usually easy going about changes. Likes: *Making her son smile*Crepes*Sunshine*Relaxing*Meeting new people*Dogs*Walks in the park*Flowers*Interior Design*Hot Chocolate Dislikes: *Rabbits*Mice*Raw Onions*Stench*Rude people*Elevations*Skiing*Gory movies*When her son cries*Rain
Description & Image:Sarah has very long dark brown hair, that she usually styles in a wavy design. She usually gets red highlights in her hair to add contrast, but every so often she forgets to get it done. She has thick lashes that cover over her blue-green eyes. A ring of gold surrounds her pupil. Her eyebrows are arched naturally, but she has to pluck a few every so often. She has one dimple on her right cheek, and a memorable smile. Her nose is long, but not large, with a decently rounded tip. She is rather skinny, with very small feet with lots of calluses on them due to how often she is on her feet. Her nails are very brittle, breaking a lot because she has not time to take care of them. She has a birth mark next to her belly button that is shaped like a kiss mark. Sarah also has a tattoo on her left ankle of a rose. She dresses to impress usually, but nothing too flashy, usually jeans, and a nice shirt. She never wears skirts, but occasionally will wear a sundress.
My Past...
Back-story: Sarah was a normal child with normal interests, she would play with barbie dolls, and play tag when it was recess. She was very shy when she was younger, but grew out of it in high school. High school was when she met her first love, his name was Jason. Jason and Sarah did not start dating until Senior year, because when she had a crush on him he had another girlfriend. They were the class couple that year, which was a great experience for her. Everyone knew who she was, all because she was dating Jason, the star football player for her school. Graduation day came faster than she had expected, and boy was she excited to get out of that place - who isn't! The best part about graduation was that she knew she would be going to the same school that Jason was going to, which was Penn State Pennsylvania, which was very far from home. Sarah was a little tired of her parents, so when Jason and her were trying to sync their colleges, they made sure to look for far away places. Sarah's parents were very annoying, always treating her like a child even though she was 18. She was planning on majoring in Catering/Cooking.
After completing college with a little less than perfect grades she had a goal to put into action. Her family had a cafe that was right down the road, and she wanted to take it over so they could retire with her friend Natalie. Well, sad thing to say she had to wait 4 more years to get her family to retire. In that time she worked as a chief in a small restaurant. Once her family accepted to retired and allow Sarah and Natalie to run the place, everything was going quite well. The business was flowing, the cafe changed to more modern looks rather than an elderly home. Her family was happy that the cafe was giving them profit still, since they got a 30 percent cut of the profits. It was then that Natalie was murdered viciously, it had only been a few years after the cafe began to boom. Her murder was that of a confusing one, Sarah walked outside to take out the trash, and there she was, dead on the corner. Sarah had called the cops as soon as she found out, freaking out that her best friend had been killed. She is not sure what will become of the cafe. And is currently being questioned by the police.

Sarah stood in the doorway of her cafe with her arms crossed, her elbow resting on her arm as she wiped the tears from her face. A group of officers were near her, asking her if she wanted to go inside and talk. "Y-Yes..." she said shaken, as she turned and put her fingers by her lips, eyes down at the floor as she walked to a comfortable couch, sitting down. She had turned the upstairs into an apartment, which was big enough for two, however she did not feel the officers needed to be upstairs at that time, nor did she want to be too far away from the police who were investigating, just in case they had some news.
"When did you last see your friend?" the cops asked, their note pads out ready to wright what she said, "Should I wait for a lawyer?" she asked, curious about how this procedure went down, "I'm not exactly sure how to do this statement thing..." she shuddered. "No dear, we can are just taking account of where she was and some personal friend information." they doubted that Sarah did it, since she was so shaken up about it. After a few minutes, Sarah offered them some coffee, feeling more at ease with the cops there but she was still shivering. "Maybe you should find somewhere else to stay tonight, Sarah." he police advised, "Oh.. I already called my parents, but they are out of town until tomorrow... I will stay here for tonight..." she said, not exactly thrilled.
After what had seemed like hours, the police bid her a goodnight, leaving her to continue their investigation outside of the cafe. They were going to call her if anymore questions arose. Sarah put her hand on her forehead, while the other rested on her hip, she was still in shock about the whole situation. She was about to head upstairs for the night.

Hugo blew out a sigh, looking over the woman's body with the familiar sink of his emotions coming into play. There was something about arriving onto a crime scene for the first time; it was almost as if one was going from the pretend world of sound bites, tainted rhetoric, and false sense of security to the reality of human nature at it's worst, presented by your friendly neighborhood psycho murderer or rapist or whatever "-ist" was causing the latest trouble. Even with all the years on the force, Hugo could never shake the feeling. Satisfied with his superficial scan(he had noted two or three things on his notepad that he would re-visit later), he walked over to the party of officers who had emerged from the cafe. They looked casual and relaxed, almost as if they had gone in on a regular coffee run. He didn't like the feel. "Hey detective, you on this case?" One of the officers in the party asked(Branson). "I am." "We got an account from the girl inside and CSI is coming over to take care of the details. Why did they send you out here?" "Back-up, I suppose?" Branson shrugged, replying: "Whatever, Detective. Just don't step on anything important." "Right." Hugo chuckled slightly at Branson's comment, knowing that the rookie was attempting to sound official, but failed miserably. Try, try again my friend.
"Back up, I guess?" Hugo snorted inwardly at his response, his real motive for arriving on the scene coming back into his mind as he headed toward the cafe entrance. This killing was the latest in a string of murders that had a few things in common, the foremost element being that the victims were all under thirty two. Odd factoid, but in this line of work, anything helped. Hugo had come to question the friend to see what he could find out and possibly end the nightmare that this killer had started.
Hugo was impressed at the interior of the cafe, noting the ambient lighting and the comfortable looking furniture. He spotted a young woman who had his back turned to him, apparently on her way to the staircase on the opposite side of the room. Must have been the owner. "You Sarah Stratton?" He approached the woman(an attractive one at that) with a smile, extending his hand forward and saying: "Hugo Douglass, Detective with the LAPD. You have time for a few questions?"

Sarah turned, her eyes looked like they were extremely tired from the whole situation, her head throbbing with questions that she never would know the answers to soon enough. She was rather annoyed that there was someone else there to ask her questions, she had already answered so many that she wasn't even sure what was the facts were anymore. With a sigh, she answered the detective..."I suppose." She then turned, facing him and leaning against the wall by the stairs, her hands brushed over the very smooth wall by her side.
"What exactly do you need to know?" she looked him over, taking in as much as she could seeing that they didn't even know each other yet they were talking, which was alright if you are that kind of person. Sarah was not that type of person who would randomly ask questions when you don't even know the person, and she knew this was impossible to ask of a crime scene team. Usually, when Sarah would meet someone they would at least be asking about her, rather than such a horrible topic.
She waited for his questions, with not much enthusiasm. She felt like she was appealing rude, but since it was very late at night, and she had already answered questions who could blame her. I wish they would just leave me alone to process this evenings events. I don't think I can keep my answers consistent, God forbid I become a suspect...I could never bare that.

Her face carried a weariness that showed her emotional exhaustion all too well. Hugo could relate to that. "I'm sorry to pester you with these questions, but this won't take long. I'll make sure it doesn't." He gave her the best smile he could come up with at ten fifty pm(which was pretty decent) before he asked his first question: "Natalie...was she a very social person? Outgoing, talking with the customers, socialite, whatever." If the question was answered in the affirmative, Hugo had a few more follow up questions. But in the meantime, he would sneak in another one: "Also, did she have any close relationships outside of work? Boyfriend, husband, whatever?"

Sarah thought for a while, thinking back on the events involving Natalie and the customers.. "She wasn't social," she answered, like a visual was coming to her mind, "She barely talked to the customers, she was usually in the back cooking instead of socializing..." Natalie was a very hermit type of person, barely left, but when she did it was for a few days. "Natalie did go somewhere the other day, the first time I have seen her since was...well..." she then pardoned herself, as she paused, "Well, you know.." looking down, she brushed her hair out of the way of her eyes... She never really talked about any relationships, in fact, she doesn't even live here. I only talk to her when we work, I never get to have too in-dept conversations. She avoids that kind of thing.."

"You said she went somewhere the other day? When? Do you remember why she went?" Now Hugo was getting somewhere. She was a reserved person who retreated into her work rather than deal with people she served, said character trait belonging to all of the other victims. They were all reserved in some fashion or another, preferring to be lost in whatever they found interesting(one wrote, one liked to play the piano, this one liked to cook,etc.). What could have brought Natalie out of her shell? It had to have been something radical, something that would break her out of her normal routine and force her to face something...but what? Hugo could only hope that Sarah had some kind of answer...otherwise, he was in for a long night. He felt his cell phone vibrate in his front pocket twice, indicating that he had missed a call. The detective's heart raced slightly, knowing that phone call could have been...
No. Not now. He had a job to do.
